Often a toy makes the situation a child responds spontaneously to. A child lost in play is especially appealing.
Child photography should not be static - action may be simple, subtle, but must be expressive.
The child's mother wanted her daughter's portrait taken in the family christening gown. After the photographic session was over the mother removed the gown but before she could remove the slip, the child wandered over and started playing with the little wooden pull-toy. Although the mother's final selection was with the christening gown, this unplanned shot was our personal favorite.
